Meningitis Information Posted or Updated on 20 Mar 2026

The MenB vaccine has been part of the UK’s routine childhood vaccination schedule since 2015. Unfortunately, we are not currently able to offer this vaccine outside of the national programme for those born before this time.

A vaccine for Meningitis ACWY is given at school in year 9.

Past vaccinations can be checked on the NHS app.

You can find more information about meningitis and vaccinations on the NHS website:

  • MenB vaccine
  • MenB vaccine for children - NHS
  • MenACWY vaccine - NHS

Meningitis can develop very quickly and can become life-threatening within hours. Early action can save lives.

Symptoms can easily be mistaken for flu, a hangover, or a cold. Trust your instincts and seek help immediately if something doesn’t feel right.

What you can do:

  • Don’t ignore symptoms in yourself or others
  • Avoid sharing drinks, vapes, or utensils
  • Check on friends or family who are unwell
  • Call NHS 111 or attend A&E urgently if  concerned
